Exclusive Interview with Barzini

Hello people, how’s it going? Late last year I had the opportunity to interview an amazing guy most of you would know. He goes by the name Nwobodo Amechi David but we all know him as Barzini- crooner of ‘Oluwa Na Gode’ and ’10k’ alongside his colleague MARS. He hails from Enugu State and attended Federal Government College, PH. Hallel College PH. University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
How did you come up with the stage name ‘Barzini’?
I used to lie to chicks that my godfather was from Sicily. It always worked trust me. The real story is a huge bore, I read a book when I was a kid and the name Barzini stuck, I liked the way it sounded when I said it. After recording my first ever song in the studio the producer asked me what name he would save the file as and I didn’t think, I said Barzini. Very boring story, I prefer the one I used to tell chicks.
What inspired you to go into the music industry and which year did you start officially?
See ehn, whenever people say words like ‘music industry’ in a conversation with me I feel very shy because I’m like ‘na me una dey use all this big grammar for?’ I’m just a normal guy who makes music and likes to connect with people. Back to the question, Honestly I don’t know. All I know is I visited a studio when I was sixteen because I was deeply curious about how people made music, I wanted to see for myself. I am moved by a burning passion to create something new.
Who did you grow up listening to?
I listened to so many people, so many people. But a few stand out – 2Face, Akon, Eminem, Kanye West, Jay-Z, Nigga Raw etc. These are just the ones I can remember.
   Any surprise till date?
Fake friends lol. They don’t even surprise me anymore so no.
What genre of music are you into?
I make music, I always will answer this question like this because it’s very easy to slip into a box if one is not careful. The beautiful thing about making music is the freedom to express oneself, key word, freedom. So Barzini is not an artiste that will be ‘genre-d’ anytime, I will prefer if we just enjoyed the music and not attempt to classify it. However MARS AND I are curating a new sound called AFRO-GROOVE (you see what freedom can do?) and our first attempt OLUWA NAGODE made us the pioneers of this sound and I’m glad the people loved it.
When and where was your first performance? How was the crowd response?
As far as I can remember it was in PH City, exactly in the hood where I grew up. This was far back in 2010. They loved me, they wanted to swallow me but I ran away lol, I love Port Harcourt.
Who do you look up to in the music industry?
Lol the music industry talk again, I blush. Anyway, in the music industry, 2Face has always provided a template for the kind of ‘person’ I want to be. I really like the man.
Is there more to Barzini than just music?
Is there not more to Nnamdi than just blogging? Lol the same applies to everybody else. There’s always more. There is more to me but if we start we won’t finish. I am a hopeless romantic and I’m a writer, you see how they both connect?
Most memorable moment
When I broke my first true love’s heart as far back as JSS3
Mention artistes you’ll love to collaborate with both locally and internationally.
2face, Asa, Burna Boy, AKA, Casper Nyovest, Kanye West. I am very greedy when it comes to making music, I always want to know how ‘it’ will sound.
Is there anyone you’ll love to appreciate for how far you’ve come?
My parents. Ikhane Akhigbe – CEO Aboriginal Productions. Emmanuel ‘MARS’ Ezechukwu – my colleague and business partner.
Any advice for people out there looking to get into the music industry?
Pray to God and prepare for a tough journey that will be worth it in the end.

Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years
There’s never really anytime to think about that because my team and I focus more on sailing ship. Telling you any fairy tale now would just be me lying. However I pray and hope for a blissful ride all through the next 5 years for myself, for MARS, for my company and my team. When I pass the next 5 years, I will pray again.
Tell us something most people don’t know about you.
I have seen an alien before.
Lmao ?? He’s such an amazing person. Well, I asked him about the alien he saw but he replied that he was hypnotized into not remembering and he said he’s for real. Do you think Barzini is lying? We’ll confirm from his colleague MarsEze soon ?
